Native American Lifeways

Discover how some of the earliest Californian's lived at the Native American Lifeways exhibit on BVM's third floor. This exhibit showcases an interpretive display featuring reproductions of full-scale Yokuts village structures. The display was constructed by the Native American Preservation Council of Kern County.

The Native American Lifeways exhibit also houses an extensive collection of artifacts from many Kern County sites as well as from the collections of the Department of Energy and California State University, Bakersfield.

Adjacent to the Yokuts village is a special collection of artwork by artist John Niko Malters. These vibrant images are re-creations of native American artwork found throughout California.
