About the Event

Dr. Anna Doty is an animal ecophysiologist who researches bats, focusing on how they physiologically interact with their environment. One of the most common yet misunderstood mammals, bats are amazing creatures which provide many ecosystem services including pollination, seed dispersal, and crop pest control. Bats also have remarkable physiological traits that allow them to survive extremely challenging environmental conditions. Unfortunately, bats are currently threatened due to invasive species, disease, habitat encroachment, and natural disasters like wildfires. In addition to her research on bats, Dr. Doty teaches courses focused on animal, plant, cell, and human physiology.

Anna Doty is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at California State University, Bakersfield. Dr. Doty received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, her Master of Science Degree in Zoology from Nelson Mandela University in South Africa, and her Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of New England in Australia. She conducted her postdoctoral research at Arkansas State University as part of a collaborative agreement with the United States Forest Service Southern Hardwoods Laboratory.
