About the Event

The Miocene deposit at nearby Sharktooth Hill is one of the most significant marine fossil sites in the world!

The 15 million year old Sharktooth Hill "bonebed" has a remarkable concentration of fossil specimens sometimes reaching up to several hundred specimens per cubic yard. It is also one of the most diverse, containing an extensive list of around 140 different vertebrate species as well as many invertebrates and plants.

BVM provides seasonal guided trips to this nearby treasure. Led by expert field guides, groups will spend the day digging at the site. Participants can also keep what they find (including megalodon teeth!) with the only exception being for finds that are particularly scientifically significant.
